The first extension of the main route, Via Transilvanica Maior, is the Teutonic land of Bârsa, and we chose it because it serves as a very important gateway into the heart of Via Transilvanica – Brașov, Kronstadt (in German), is a major tourist destination, visited by many, and thus offers an easy and direct passage toward the main route, forming in turn a land that’s perfect to explore, visit, and travel through.
It stretches out before the traveler with its Saxon and Hungarian villages, medieval or even older, small towns with names of mountains and flocks of sheep scattered across hills with “guruiețe” (unique hill shapes), colorful and fragrant wildflowers later found in the teas offered by local hosts – and all of this crowned by the greatest royal crown ever seen: the Făgăraș ridge, the Bucegi massif, and Piatra Craiului, which often rise before the traveler like a crown toward which one walks. It's no coincidence that Brașov is called Kronstadt (Crown City in German); we strongly believe it deserves this royal name. And this sense of royalty accompanies us throughout the journey, starting from Viscri – the favorite village of a famous crowned head – then passing through other hamlets which were equally important in their time due to the legacy left by the Teutonic Knights, continuing toward Poiana Mărului and then Bran, a place beloved by Queen Maria, who even left her heart there; through Râșnov with its fortress, and finally reaching the great Brașov, one of the seven fortified cities of Transylvania. A miraculous journey, one that makes us pause and marvel.
